What is PTFE ?

You will find the answer to the question of what is PTFE, an engineering plastic, in detail below and get rid of the questions in your mind.

PTFE Teflon has the widest operating temperature range (-250, +260) among high-performance plastics, high resistance to chemicals and moisture, electrical insulation, non-flammability and non-sticking, and very superior technical features. Its surface is slippery, so it does not stick and repels external factors. Filled teflon alloys are obtained by adding filler materials such as pure teflon, glass fiber teflon, carbon, bronze in order to increase the deformation resistance of PTFE teflon, which is one of the engineering plastic types, to increase its heat and conductivity, and to reduce the thermal expansion coefficient. Teflon, which is an easily processable material, is offered to customers by processing it as desired, such as solid wedge teflon, solid rod teflon, Teflon empty rod, Teflon sheet, Teflon film, Teflon strip, Teflon hose, Teflon gasket, depending on the place of use and need.

PTFE Teflon Properties

  • The coefficient of friction is very low. (Between 0.05 and 0.20, this coefficient varies depending on the sliding speed, applied load and the type of Teflon (PTFE) coating used.)

  • It has the feature of not absorbing moisture. Teflon (PTFE) coated surfaces do not retain moisture and provide thorough cleaning.

  • It can work at high temperatures. It provides the opportunity to use up to high temperatures such as 290°C/ 550°F continuous service temperature and 315°C/ 600°F in intermittent heating systems where adequate ventilation is provided.

  • It is insulating. Teflon (PTFE) shows features such as high insulating power, surface durability and low loss factor in wide frequency ranges. It can be used as an anti-static coating with sufficient electroconductivity with special techniques.

  • It can work at low temperatures. Teflon (PTFE) can work even at low temperatures such as -270°C/ -454°F without losing its physical properties.

  • It is not affected by chemicals. Teflon (PTFE) is unaffected by chemicals other than molten alkali metals and highly reactive fluorinated chemicals.

PTFE Chemical Properties

  • Specific gravity: 2.1-2.2 gr/cm3
  • Tensile strength: 140-380 kg/cm2
